What to bring:
Bring all computers ,extension cords, and multi-outlet strips (only one outlet per table is furnished). Also bring the software needed to run the project. Judges may ask how an element was created. Students need to be able to demonstrate and/or explain the process(es). Try to bring a second copy of the project on diskette, CD or other backup mode in the event of an accidental erasure or change made by the student in demonstrating the project. Be sure to bring headphones for the judges for any projects that have sound.
There will be limited access to the Internet available. The connection should only be used as part of the project, not as a connection for play. It will be the sponsor's (or adult representative's) responsibility to keep the Internet connection from being abused. Wireless will also be available, but only for competition purposes.
We encourage you to bring games and books to fill your "down" time. Room 230 in Taylor Center will be where students gather before and after being judged. Judging times will be assigned for the morning period. There will be significant time with "nothing to do". Categories with multiple judges will begin re-judging between 11:30 and noon. These judges will select their top two or three projects, and revisit them as a group. If needed, selected projects will be viewed a third time.
What to expect:
Teacher or parent sponsors will pick up registration packets from the information table. All fees must be paid prior to the event. Packets will include Certificates of Participation and judging time assignments for projects. Students should not be on the gym floor unless being judged. Students are required to present their projects for the competition to the judge. Dress for the students should adhere to standard school dress codes, for those schools with uniforms as the dress code, the students do not need to where uniforms but must still adhere to any standard dress code for school dress. In the past, students have come in dressy casual and some in jeans. The student's clothing should not draw attention to themselves in ways that are not appropriate for their age group.
Technology Information (Literacy) Test: Students taking the test will be given up to one hour to complete the 50 multiple choice questions. The test will be conducted in another building on the AUM campus. There will be volunteers available to escort the younger students between the buildings. If they are not participating in any other categories of competition, they are free to leave when finished and may return for the awards ceremony at 2:00 p.m.
Students competing in judged categories are assigned a time to present their project(s) to the judges. If the category is large it will have several judges (stranding). They will select the top two or three projects they have viewed and confer among each other in order to see those projects again as a group. Re-judging will begin between 11:30 and noon. Judges may chose to see selected projects a third time.
Students who have already been judged or waiting to be judged can go to room 230 in Taylor center to watch movies or play board games.
